Running Strong Since 1984

Rhayader Running Club has been a proud part of the local community for over forty years. What began as a small group of like-minded runners has grown into a thriving club that welcomes members from Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells, and the wider Mid Wales area.

We run together multiple times a week, exploring everything from quiet country lanes to challenging mountain trails. Whether it’s a personal milestone, a community race, or just a relaxed social jog, we believe in supporting each other every step of the way.

As an affiliated member of  Welsh Athletics, our runners can access structured training, competitive events, and opportunities to grow as athletes.

Our club colours and proud red kite emblem symbolise both the spirit of our members and the natural beauty that surrounds us. If you’re looking for friendship, motivation, and the thrill of the open path—you’ve found your club.

Our Club Values

At the heart of Rhayader Running Club is a simple goal:

to encourage and celebrate running in all its forms.

We welcome runners of every ability, and background.

Whether your passion lies in road running, trail running, cross-country, or fell running, there’s a place for you here.

From Hills to High Streets:

There’s a Route for Everyone

Our weekly schedule offers something for all abilities:

  • Tuesdays, 6 PM – Mixed-pace road or trail runs, including our Couch-to-5K beginners’ group.

  • Thursdays, 6 PM – Social running, hill reps, or tempo sessions tailored to the group.

  • Sundays – Longer runs across breathtaking routes such as Drygarn Fawr, Rhogo, and the Elan Valley.

  • Wednesdays (ad hoc) – Trail adventures, race preparation, or midweek exploration of Mid Wales.

In the winter, we focus on safe, well-lit town routes. In the summer, we head out into Radnorshire’s rolling countryside, mountains, and forests. Starting points vary each week—check our Facebook page for the latest updates.

New to running? You’re more than welcome. Walk-run, take breaks, or jog at your own pace—you’ll never be left behind.

Chair person

Hi Adam here, I joined the club in 2021 and was made to feel so welcome that when the club needed a new chair in  2024 I offered my help.  Its a joy to see new runners achieve their goals..and as a lirf as well my favorite thing is when a local person says..."I have never ever been here!"  That's what makes an adventure!

Hi I’m Sharon.  I joined Rhayader Running Club in January 2024 when they launched their very first Couch to 5K program.  I’d only recently moved to Wales and thought that it would be a great way to meet people and potentially return to fitness.  How right I was.  Everyone was so friendly and I was blown away by the encouragement the existing members gave to us newbies. I’ll let you into a little secret, I don’t actually like running but what I do like are the fabulous people I get to run with on club sessions as well as the stunning environment we run in, oh and the fact that the more I run, the more cake I can eat!  When the Committee needed help, as I had time in my hands, it was a no brainer to become involved.

I’m Jude, the Treasurer. I’ve been a member of the club for over 10 years. I love running off road, the wild hills and leading sessions, but my favourite is seeing new runners come through our couch to 5km courses. It’s a privilege to be part of their running journey.

Vice Chair

I have been a member of Rhayader Running Club since 2013 and relish the friendship and family atmosphere that being part of this club brings to me.

My running journey has far exceeded my expectations, and the support the club has given me along the way has been invaluable.

I enjoy social running, being a LiRF supporting other runners in their own journey and the fun we have running together in our beautiful area.
