Thinking about starting running but not sure where to begin? Our Couch to 5K programme is the perfect way to take your first steps.

 

Based on the NHS-approved plan, this free, structured course is designed for complete beginners and gently builds your fitness over 9 weeks until you can confidently run 5 kilometres without stopping.

Sessions are led by friendly, qualified run leaders from Rhayader Running Club, who provide support, encouragement, and tips to keep you motivated. You’ll be joining others who are also starting their running journey, so you won’t be alone. Each week, you’ll progress at a manageable pace, combining walking and running intervals until running becomes second nature.

The programme is open to all abilities and ages, and no previous running experience is needed—just a pair of trainers and a willingness to give it a go. At the end of the course, we celebrate together with a 5K run, where you can enjoy the sense of achievement and community that comes with completing your first milestone.
