At Rhayader Running Club, we don’t let the seasons slow us down—we embrace them. From frosty fields to golden woodland trails, every time of year brings a new reason to lace up and get moving.

❄️ Winter: Foggy Roads & Frosty Sunrises

Winter runs are a test of grit and good gear. We stick to the roads around Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells—well-lit, grippy, and safe. High-vis vests, head torches, and post-run hot chocolates are essential.

Top tip: “Layer up with moisture-wicking fabrics. And don’t skip the gloves!”

Spring: Green Trails and Racing Goals

Spring sees the return of colour—and club events. As the Elan Valley bursts into bloom, we start venturing out to our favourite trail routes again. It’s also a time for preparation, with many members targeting Round the Lakes or early 10Ks.

Featured route: Elan Valley reservoir trail — scenic, hilly, and wildly photogenic.

Summer: Sunset Hills and Social Runs

Our summer sessions are pure joy—long evenings, birdsong, and the kind of golden light that makes you forget you’re sweating. Expect adventurous routes up Drygarn Fawr, trail loops near Rhogo, and occasional pub-run finishes in Llanyre.

“I joined for the fitness, but stayed for the sunsets and post-run chips.” — Sarah, club member

Autumn: Crunchy Leaves and Endurance

Autumn running is about consistency. Temperatures drop, the trails soften, and our club training gets structured around stamina—ready for November’s 10-Mile Road Race. It’s also the perfect season to enjoy quiet hills and dramatic skies.

Kit tip: Trail shoes are a must—Radnorshire gets muddy!

We Don’t Stop When It Rains—We Start

Every season in Mid Wales is running season. The hills don’t close, and neither do we. Whether you’re watching steam rise off your breath in January or dodging midges in July, there’s always someone to run with.

Want to experience a full year of running with us? [Check out our schedule] or just pop by a Tuesday session. The path is always open.
